In this, its second year, the festival is welcoming emerging filmmakers and enthusiasts of all ages to attend a packed programme of completely free events running from with a focus on first time features, filmmaking in the northwest and animation.
Highlights include special guest Neil Marshall, director of Dog Soldiers and The Descent, discussing his transition from studying film at Carlisle College to directing £10m Hollywood epics and hosting a free screening of Doomsday at the Apollo Cinema; masterclasses and workshops from award-winning director Brian Gilbert (The Gathering; Wilde; Vice Versa), animator Bruce Husband (Ooglies, Postman Pat, Roary the Race Car) and a ‘Best of the Fest’ short film screening from Glasgow Film Festival with guest filmmakers discussing their work.
Other activities on offer include talks from North West Vision + Media experts, one-to-one advice sessions on making your film happen, a free networking lunch and exhibition of film and digital art works at the Art Gene Gallery and a programme of courses aimed specifically at students and young people running during the daytimes. On both evenings everyone is invited to join the filmmakers for fun and drinks at networking parties at the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel and the Custom House in Barrow town centre.
