‘Idea to Script’ is a FREE course from First Take.

The course takes the writer from their initial idea for a short film through to the revised 2nd draft screenplay. Two of the scripts will be produced as part of First Take’s ‘Scratch to Screen’ talent development scheme.

‘Idea to Script’ is a practical course that includes sessions and workshops on the premise, treatment, scene-by-scene and 1st draft screenplay.

The writer also learns the art of pitching and how to do an effective pitch with the opportunity to pitch to an industry panel. The panel will choose the two scripts to be produced.

Drawing from UK Film Council commissioned material written by Phil Parker, the author of ‘The Art and Science of Screenwriting’, ‘Idea to Script’ will look at genre, theme, tone, character and characterisation. It will explore what makes a short film work and what makes an award-winning short film.

The course tutor is Writer/Director Lynne Harwood of First Take, who has experience writing short films, features as well as for broadcast television. There will also be a Q&A session with Writer Julie Rutterford who will talk about her BAFTA award-winning short film ‘About a Girl’.

The course is aimed at people who are underrepresented in the film industry and First Take positively seeks applications from women, people from black and ethnic minorities and people with disabilities.
