Established in 2008, Serious Feather is a privately-funded independent film and video production group based in Manchester. Currently specialising in music video production, we pride ourselves on the active support we can give to Manchester’s vibrant creative community and, in turn, are committed to our working ethos of ‘innovation through education’ in terms of development, production, style and content. As a result, we regularly invite undergraduates and postgraduates from the region’s universities to take advantage of our on-set placement opportunities when they are available.

Mother Video Project Background

Following an initial meeting in December 2009 with Manchester-based independent band, Louis Barabbas and The Bedlam Six, creative development on a narrative-based video promo for their next single release began.

By mid-January 2010 an animated storyboard which fluidly dramatised on the comic-Gothic tendencies of the song and its performance was in place and, once viewed and agreed to by the band themselves, Serious Feather then entered into the pre-production phase of the project.

The production was to be shot on a Canon 5d Mark II with Steadicam, and over the next three weeks a crew of ten was assembled, an evocative location was secured in the Northern Quarter and suitable props and costumes designed.

While shooting took place over two days and nights at the end of January, editing and grading on Final Cut Studio took a further three weeks. Critically, final cut for the project rested with Serious Feather and, as a result, the project was completed under budget and to standard on time.
