May 8, 08:41 PM by Kate Taylor

Hello. I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am trying to gain some experience in Script Continuity. I have done some on various short films and have also shadowed a Script Supervisor. I am looking to gain more experience on shorts or gain some work experience. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Rhiannon Preece-Towey: email: rhiannonpt@aol.co.uk

Darksnide Productions

Apr 18, 01:17 PM by Kate Taylor

We’re casting for the lead in a short – working title The Necklace. The Necklace: An alcoholic street urchin wakes up after yet another booze fuelled night on the streets. In his pocket is a necklace, but who’s is it? Why does he have it? What should he do with it? As the memories of the previous night begin to trickle back into focus our lead begins to wonder if he really does want to find the answer to these questions. Role – Tramp: Male. Late 30s-40s. Must be a strong character actor as this story is told without much dialogue. Not too pretty. This work is unpaid, but we are a fun and driven team. This film will be shown on the film festival circuit so we can offer plenty of exposure. One of our team has recently won Best Actor at the Athens Fantasy Film Festival. Please email your CV and photo to filmdi@yahoo.co.uk.

Young Male Actors Wanted

Apr 18, 01:16 PM by Kate Taylor

Wanted male actors aged between 14 and 18 for a short film being shot next week. The film will be screened and premiered at the Moves08 Film Festival in Manchester on Sat 26th April and is being made by a small friendly, film crew and directed by Rebecca McKnight. One lead role is available and also a number of extra roles. Acting experience is not necessary as there is no dialogue in the film; however you must have enthusiasm, be able to take direction and able to commit to the shoot dates and times.

The film is set in Manchester and the lead actor will be asked to ride a BMX bike down a street and also do an underwater swimming scene in the Manchester Aquatics Centre (so you must be comfortable to be filmed in your swim shorts and be able to swim). The scenes the extras appear in are also shot in the swimming baths, so the same criteria will apply.

The shoot dates are:
Sun 20 Apr – early evening,
Mon 21 Apr – early evening,
Tues 22 Apr – early evening,
Weds 23 Apr – early evening.

Exact shoot times are to be confirmed. Travel expenses, refreshments, a DVD copy of the film and invites to the film premiere on Sat 26th April will be provided along with a Reference Letter to add to your CV.

To be considered please email the following information to Rebecca McKnight at reb.mcknight@gmail.com by midday on Sat 19 April: recent photo of yourself; your age; your height; where you live e.g. Manchester, Stockport etc; how you will travel to and from the shoot; and whether you have any acting experience. If you or your parents would like any further information please call Rebecca on 0781 597 8573.

Feature Film seeking crew

Apr 13, 06:41 PM by Kate Taylor

Carey Films Ltd is in pre-production on its low budget feature film The Spell and is now recruiting crew. The following crew members are being sought for the production which is due to start shooting on 30th June for four weeks: Camera Assistant, Focus Puller, Digital Image Technician, Gaffer, Make-Up Designer, Wardrobe/Props Manager and Continuity Supervisor.
Based on a true story, The Spell tells the story of Jenny, a girl who finds herself unwanted by either of her separated parents during the formative years of her life and leaves home at the earliest opportunity. However, live-in boyfriend Rick’s associations with witchcraft and black magic soon take her down a path which leads to the most horrific experience of her young life. She seeks help from friends, doctors, psychiatrists and religious leaders but finds only scepticism and disbelief. Finally, from the confines of a mental hospital, she finds the help she needs but it comes from an unexpected source.

The film is to be shot in and around Leeds so people located in West Yorkshire would be ideal but, if necessary, we can arrange accommodation in the Leeds area and/or pay travel expenses for people coming from elsewhere. Principal photography is scheduled to start on Monday 30th June and to last until Saturday 26th July. Although this is a very low budget film, in addition to food, travel expenses and accommodation (if needed), Carey Films is able to offer to all crew members 50% of BECTU freelance minimum rates in cash (between £240 and £360 per week depending on the role) with the other 50% being deferred into a pro rata share of revenue earned by the film. The film is to be shot using a RED 35mm digital cinema camera and will subsequently transferred to 35mm film if necessary although it is expected to be released in the UK utilising the digital screen network established in cinemas around the country by the UK Film Council. Anyone interested in any of the above crew roles should e-mail their CV to
