As if you hadn’t noticed, summer is bursting out all over the north and it’s a great time to give all your creative projects a good airing. Check out all the Call For Entries in this week’s newsletter to find plenty of opportunities for both narrative based filmmakers and artists using film and video. If you’re an experienced filmmaker and you think you can make a film in 48 hours then why not take part in the Exodus 48 Hour Film Challenge at Urbis on Saturday. The Exodus Shorts Refugee Film Festival takes place during Refugee Week (16 – 22 June) and we’ll be bringing you full details nearer the time.
And, if you haven’t yet checked out the BFI’s Liverpool: a city on screen, take a quick peek.
‘til next time – can penguins fly?
May 2, 03:22 PM by Kate TaylorA big thank you to all of you who came along to the moves08 Industry Brunch last Saturday. It was good to meet new and potential members and more importantly hear what you have to say about NFN, what we do and how we can help you. And it was good for us to learn more about how other network organisation operate. All of the comments and suggestions that came up on the day will be fed back into a review of our activities. Those of you who weren’t able to come along, but have something to say about NFN and what you would like to see us doing, please email us on info@northernfilmnetwork.com. In the mean time, sit back, make a cup of tea and browse through this week’s newsletter.
‘til next time – enjoy a nice cup of tea.
Apr 25, 02:51 PM by Kate TaylorWe good folk at the Northern Film Network are going to be out and about in the region over the coming days. Tomorrow we’ll be talking about who we are and what we do at the moves08 festival Industry Brunch. This free event is also your chance to tell us what you think we should be doing, so come along, say hello and have your say.
Then next Tuesday 29 April we’ll be attending the launch of Liverpool: A City on Screen at Liverpool Central Library. This unique online resource dedicated to exploring Liverpool’s history in film and television has been developed to coincide with the city’s celebration as European Capital of Culture. The site, which features rare and popular films and programmes about Liverpool, goes live on Tuesday, so take a peek and see what you think.
‘til next time, here’s something cheesy to make you smile.
Apr 18, 01:25 PM by Kate TaylorThe moves08 Film Festival breezes onto screens in Manchester and Lancaster next week. Look out for the many events that compliment the film screenings – especially the Industry Brunch on Saturday 26 April from 11am at Sandbar in Manchester. NFN will be making an appearance at this event, talking about what we do and how we can benefit you. This is your chance to find out more about us and have your say on what you think we should be doing to help all you new and emerging filmmakers.
‘til next time, take the pinhole challenge.
Apr 13, 06:49 PM by Kate TaylorPedal power cinema steams into Lancaster at the Dukes tonight as the venue hosts its first ever film screening through a bicycle powered projector – well three bikes actually, it takes more peddling than you might think. This greener than green way to screen has been developed by Dr Martin Burbidge, a local electronic and radio frequency research consultant and he’ll be explaining how it all works before screening B.I.K.E: The Movie. This one off event is part of the Dukes’ Bike Film Festival and could give us all a taste of cinema in the post peak oil years to come. I’ll be there with cycle shorts to the ready, hoping to do my bit for the future of film.
Further north, the Keswick Film Festival runs until Sunday night and you’ve still time to catch some great workshops, events and screenings in the heart of the Lakes.
‘til next time – here’s one for those who missed Lancaster’s Bike Film Fest.
