Feb 26, 10:42 AM by Kate Taylor

6th – 27th March 2010
Cornerhouse Manchester

This spring feel the fiesta love, as ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival rocks a real Hispanic fever at Cornerhouse with a non-stop month-long festival(running 6 – 27 March 2010), featuring 18 new films and 3 shorts programmes. Gallery 1 will also keep the rhythm up as it moves to the beat of leading Mexican artist Carlos Amorales’ new solo show, featuring two of his most recent works Psicofonias and Discarded Spider (both from 2008).

As always, the festival offers a snapshot of the best in recent Spanish cinema, which this year includes Catalan gem Little Indi, a coming of age fable about a teenage bird lover who is forced to confront the harshest side of life to help his mother.

Other highlights include a host of cross-country and cross-genre collaborations, including opening film Solo Quiero Caminar (Just Walking), a revenge thriller and Spanish/Mexican co-production. Also amongst the exciting panoply is a Hispano Mancunian feast – a live accompaniment by Manchester-based band Die Kunst (an experimental rock band collaboration between Richard Hylton, Martin Vincent and David Mackintosh) to the mesmerising short films of Segundo de Chomónx: Le Scarabée d’or (1907), Excursión Incoherente (1909) and Metempsycose (1907). Alongside all this, expect an array of events, from guest director talks to live musical accompaniments, to education study sessions, and not forgetting the famed networking events designed to give participants an opportunity to practice their language.
