Discovery Campus proudly present new and innovative production technologies, a walk around 360, variations on the theme for incorporating animation into documentary and even future plans to create a computer programme that spits out formatted programmes at the push of a button. They have ARTE’s “Twenty Show” webisode series creator on hand to show the potential of cross media projects. NFN Hosts Documentaries, Discovery Campus and Digital Shorts

NFN are hosting a fringe event during the Discovery Campus Masterschool. This is a fantastic event for anyone interested in documentaries. Peter Symes, head of studies at the Discovery Masterschool will be talking about the Discovery Campus and showing us examples of participants work. Reelisor will be presented, the new online cooperation platform for the european documentary film business and Will Massa from Northwest Vision and Media will be explaining how documentary filmmakers can apply for the Digital Shorts Scheme.
Join us and the Discovery Campus participants afterwards for drinks in the bar and networking.
This screening is free but tickets are limited please book through the Cornerhouse Box Office.

The weekend is shaping up to be packed with content that will lighten the dark skies of the economic landscape. Recessions can be times of innovation and National Geographic Channel have chosen to enter into a new venture!
Come along to hear Mark Wild, newly appointed Director of International Development who will work out of London, explain an exciting new direction that strives to bring non-US producers into the Nat Geo US Channel fold.
Elaine Frontain Byrant, Director of Nonfiction and Alternative programming, will join a panel of commissioning editors to giveus a behind the scenes look at what’s happening in Television around the world.
Portal Video from Boston will present an innovative way to save time and money in the rough cut process and a panel devoted to CGI will open a whole new vista of possibilities for incorporating animation into documentary.
Waltz With Bashir did it exquisitely. And at this campus they will present a case study of the project. Charlotte Uzu the producer from Films d’Ici will be on hand to explain how they persuaded ARTE to back the project. Not easy, as it was the first project for an animated documentary on a deadly serious subject. It’s all about perseverance, and a really talented film-maker, Ari Folman.

NFN presents Treatments to Screen

Northern Film Network in association with Channel K and Tubedale Films are going to be discussing script treatments. The event will also include a Q&A session and an opportunity to meet both the speakers and to network with other NFN members and
filmmakers from the region.
This event will be hosted by NFN. Guest speakers are
Matt Tiller, Director of Programming at Channel K who will be discussing treatments and his experience of their
journey from proposal stage to screen and how to pique the
interest of production companies. John Maxwell, from Tubedale Films will also be sharing his thoughts and experiences.
Matt Tiller is the Director of Programming at Channel K, the Manchester based production company formed by Channel X, makers of Shooting Stars andReeves & Mortimer. He began his career as a journalist and then producer/director of factual programming, including documentaries such as Bailiffs for BBC
One. Matt has developed several scripted comedy ideas winning commissions for BBC Three, Channel 4, E4 and Paramount Comedy. His latest project is a six part sitcom series in production for BBC Three. Matt and Channel K focus on developing local writing and performing talent.
John is a prolific filmmaker based in Liverpool. Since 1998 John has worked on 16 short films and 3 features, either as a writer, producer or director. John is currently finalising post-production on David Morrissey’s directorial debut feature The Pool, ahead of entry into the 2009 Berlinale Film Festival.
